TV chef Jean-Christophe Novelli has revealed he missed the birth of his newborn son because he was taking his older boys to school, and that he wept when he first saw a picture of his baby.

The 55-year-old, who welcomed his third child with fiancee Michelle Kennedy, 40, in September, also revealed to Hello! magazine their son's name is Valentino Louis.

Novelli's daughter Christina, 30, from a previous relationship was by Ms Kennedy's side during the birth as it was an important day for his four-year-old son Jacques.

The father-of-four explained: "It was Jacques' first day at big school, which was a big deal for him. I was hoping to be there for the birth but Michelle insisted that I took the boys.

"I knew it was the best thing for everybody."

He added: "As soon as he was born at 9am Christina sent me a text with a picture. I cried. It was so magical.

"I have always wanted three sons and this is the perfect hat-trick. All the ingredients are here for a lovely recipe. It's wonderful to have children."

Novelli and his partner also have an eight-year-old son called Jean.

He explained that he will "be at the traditional retirement age" by the time his youngest attends secondary school.

He added: "But age is not important; I still feel young and I expect I will be running for my bus pass!"

Born in Arras in France, Novelli moved to the UK in 1983 and worked in several establishments, including one in Devon owned by the late celebrity chef Keith Floyd.

In 1996, the Frenchman founded Maison Novelli, his first restaurant in London.

Alongside his establishments, Michelin-starred chef Novelli also has a media career which includes television appearances on ITV's Hell's Kitchen and BBC One's Saturday Kitchen.
