The tongue-in-cheek Ladybird Books for Grown-Ups series has sold a milestone two million copies in under 12 months.

Authors Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris join the elite ranks of authors such as JK Rowling, Dan Brown and EL James in reaching the landmark sales figures in such a short period of time.

On release in October 2015, the current set of 10 titles - including spoofs on mindfulness, hipsters and the mid-life crisis - dominated The Sunday Times best-seller charts for 37 consecutive weeks.

Offering humorous and nostalgic takes on daily life for adults, publishers Penguin has now announced that nine new titles will be released in the autumn including The Ladybird Book of The Sickie and How it Works: The Grandparent.

Speaking on their success, Penguin Michael Joseph's editorial director Rowland White said: "The overwhelming reaction to last year's brilliant Ladybird Books for Grown-Ups was extraordinary and heart-warming - a real testament to the love and care that Jason and Joel put into writing them.

"It's clear, with this new range of titles, that their affection and enthusiasm for Ladybird remains undimmed.

"We'll be laughing like drains all over again."

Hazeley and Morris are regular contributors to Charlie Brooker and Miranda Hart's shows and recently BBC's Cunk On Shakespeare and Murder In Successville.

They said that "being allowed to have fun with Ladybird's astonishing picture archive is a ridiculous privilege", as they offered a "helping hand with the baffling world of being a grown-up".

How it Works: The Student will be published on August 25, while eight more titles will hit bookshops on October 20.
