'There was a time when I all wanted was to be skinny, but now I've put my body image issues in the past' - Amanda Byram
She’s known for her love of fitness and healthy living, but Amanda Byram has admitted that in the past the only thing she cared about was being thin.
The TV presenter (43) got her start in the entertainment industry as a model and struggled with her body image for several years.
She said there is a fine line between passion and obsession when it comes to fitness.
“Anything done to any degree is an obsession and it is unhealthy and that is one of the reasons why I got so into health and fitness, because I struggled with body image for many years,” she told the Herald.
“All I ever wanted to be was skinny. I thought skinny was healthy and I didn’t care about anything else or what my next meal would or wouldn’t be.”
It wasn’t until Amanda, who is married to TV producer Julian Okines, was in her 30s that she began to focus more on having a healthy lifestyle than being as thin as possible. “I felt like I was so exhausted and I started really training and eating well and a whole new world opened up for me,” she said.
“I was eating more than I had ever eaten, feeling stronger than I ever was and looking better than I did when I was modelling since I was 16.”
Amanda, from Castleknock, is gearing up to host RTE’s Dancing With The Stars in January alongside Nicky Byrne.
The contestants were revealed earlier this week, with the dancers and judges to be announced soon.
Another who’s focused on eating well is model Sarah McGovern.
The blonde is keeping track of what she eats these days, but she’s not afraid to let her healthy habits slip over the festive season.
“I do have to watch what I eat nowadays, I can’t eat everything I want. I eat healthy and I try my best. I will totally let loose for Christmas, I’ve already started,” said Sarah.
She and husband Kenny Vaughan are planning a festive Christmas with all her relations.
“We are very lucky this year in having all of our family together. Each year, we alternate. Kenny has one year with the family and then the following year, they come to my family.
“We’re all going to be together in my brother’s house. We’re all helping to chip in with the festivities. All the kids will be together,” she said.
