'There are two or three of them that remind me of Gerard' - Morah Ryan on her children
Morah Ryan said her eldest daughter Lottie "definitely" reminds her of the late Gerry Ryan.
She spoke fondly about her love for each other five children - Lottie (30), Rex (28), Elliott (22), Bonnie (25) and Babette (18) - with the late broadcaster, who died in 2010. Gerry, who was one of RTE's most distinctive voices, had separated from Morah in 2008 after 26 years of marriage.
"[Lottie] would definitely be a Ryan. She reminds me a lot of Gerard full stop. There are two or three of them that remind me of Gerard," she told RSVP magazine.
She went on to praise her children's bravery in their respective careers: Lottie is covering for Jennifer Zamparelli's maternity leave on 2fm's Breakfast Republic, Bonnie is pursuing a career as a makeup artist and Elliott is a final year commerce student at UCD. Morah praised Bonnie's career u-turn, pursuing makeup artistry after trying her hand at an office job and later at a singing career, releasing her debut single I'm Out in 2016.
"I am so proud of her too. She had a job but was really unhappy so she took a big jump. Bonnie has very little money, but she is doing something she is passionate about. She is doing a great job and I am very, very proud of her."
The Ryans are exceptionally private, even Lottie, whose thriving presenting career with RTE requires media interviews and attention, prefers to keep as low a profile as possible. Similarly, Bonnie insists on leaving her long-term boyfriend John out of the limelight.
