The OC star Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen 'completely done' after nine years
Be still our breaking teenage hearts.
Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen (both 36) have ended their relationship after nine years together. The OC star and Star Wars actor never married and have a daughter Briar Rose (three) together.
Bilson had moved to her other half's native Toronto, but has since returned to Los Angeles in the wake of their split.
"She’s full-time back in L.A. He’s in Toronto. They’ve been on the outs for a couple of months," a source told Us Weekly.
"They are completely, officially done."
The couple previously split in 2010 for three months before reuniting, however they never reignited their engagement. They first met in 2008 on the set of their action flick Jumper.
Both of their careers have levelled in recent years, with Bilson most recently starring in Hart of Dixie and Christensen consciously pulling back from the limelight, saying he felt his career-defining role as Darth Vadar had been "a little too handed" to him and he wanted to focus on himself before trying his hand at Hollywood again.
"You can’t take years off and not have it affect your career. But I don’t know - in a weird, sort of destructive way there was something appealing about that to me," he told the LA Times.
"There was something in the back of my head that was like, 'If this time away is gonna be damaging to my career, then so be it. If I can come back afterwards and claw my way back in then maybe I’ll feel like I earned it.'"
The pair always maintained their privacy, especially when it came to their daughter. Although the proud father did reveal the meaning behind her unique name. "There’s a Disney reference there I suppose. The original Sleeping Beauty is called Briar Rose. Rachel - we both love Disney - but Rachel especially was very keen on the name," he explained in 2015.
And his daughter is clearly the apple of his eye as he previously gushed about her to E! News. "I have this little angel in my life now and Rachel and I are so thrilled,' he said. 'We don't sleep as much as we used to, but it's all so worth it."
