It will, I can assure you, be all Wright on the night. This Friday, the luxuriously coiffured tycoon Michael Wright Junior is celebrating his 50th birthday with a bash at his pub The Anglers Rest in Strawberry Beds. Expect all the Wright dynasty and their glamorous wives (Michael's wife Kim chief among them), to be in attendance on the night. Michael's mother Bernie, a former Aer Lingus air hostess, as well as his uncle Tom and wife Charlotte are expected at this knees-up in Chapelizod. Sadly, the patriarch of the Wright family, Michael Wright senior, passed away in 2011, aged 74.

I feel there should be a law against the sheer glamour quotient of the Wrights. Just look at the wives of Michael's siblings: Jill Diffley (wife of Mark); Mary Moore (wife of David), Melanie (wife of Darren). And of course Michael's sister Aisling (with husband Alex.)

Mary Moore and other half David are getting themselves in the mood for partying by attending the 50th of Peter Marks coiffeur to the stars, Michael Doyle, in House on Leeson Street tonight. Others who have RSVP-ed included Andrea Roche and husband Rob, Pamela Flood and boyfriend Ronan Ryan, Bressie and his other half Roz Purcell.

Patricia Roe, who is booked to sing tonight, will attend with her equally lovely sister Valerie Roe, who will return to Lillie's Bordello – which she ran from 1992-2005 – this Thursday. She is hosting a soiree to mark the fifth birthday of Claire Malone's company, Create Your Night.

Liam Cunningham, Keith and Lisa Duffy, Helen and Katie Jane Goldin, among others, will be there – if that isn't enough A list celeb excitement for the night.

Talking about excitement, do please go down to the Project theatre in Temple Bar and re-kindle your love of the Bard, not to mention your love of Olwen Fouere and Owen Roe.

Director Selina Cartmell has done all of us romantics a service in this homage to that much underrated quality – tenderness. A Tender Thing – bet Bono is sorry he didn't think of that.

Guitars gently weep as the Savages leave

Just when you thought there were some fresh green shoots peeping throught (courtesy of those bi-polar agents Moodys) I have to go and bring you doom and gloom. Paige Savage and her rockstar husband Rick have moved back to England.

The Leppard may be Def, but it was nice to have him – and his family – round so we are all sad at the news they have left their palatial home in Dublin.

A few weeks ago, gorgeous blonde Paige and her guitar god hubby – one of the founding members of hard rock band Def Leppard – made the big move with their kids.

I don't know about you, but this social diarist is so inconsolable at the news of the Savages' departure that all I can say is: pour some sugar on me.

The weeping and gnashing of teeth in Lillie's Bordello can only be imagined as word emerged that the two great stalwarts of partying have gone back across the Irish sea.

For a good few years now, multi-millionaire Rick and stunner Paige, both from England, have been an integral part of the cooler part of the Dublin social scene, popping up to model at fashion shows, charity shows and the like.

"They are two of the loveliest, nicest people you could ever meet," a mutual friend told me. "They want to base themselves in England from now on. They went in early January. It is a new year and a new start for them."

Somewhere, I can hear a sad, heavy metal guitar solo in their honour...

Footie ace Rush sports a smile

Liverpool demi-god Ian Rush had every reason to be smiling like a Cheshire cat at Anfield on Tuesday night when his old club demolished Everton in the local derby. His smile will be even more feline tomorrow when he flies off to Miami with his stunning girlfriend, Cork-born pop star Carol Anthony. Carol is doing a photo shoot and Ian is attending a football conference.

When they get back they will be fighting the jetlag – in their own unique and intimate way – at Carol's new pad in London.

She moved into a swish penthouse in Highgate two weeks ago. Stop me before I turn into Laurence Llewelyn Bowen, but Carol also spent some time recently as interior design consultant on Ian's new pad in Cheshire.

The happy couple, who have been dating since last May, know London intimately.

Last week they went to Phantom Of The Opera before dining a deux in Nobu in Mayfair. They're also planning a trip to Dubai in May and one further afield to Asia, where a multi-millionaire is keen to link up with Carol and Ian to possibly open The Ian Rush Sports Bar in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing. What, no Cork?

Stormin' Norma still surprises

Norma Smurfit never ceases to surprise me. Firstly, she looks younger every time I meet her. It must be all the charity work she does for nothing – unlike some people I could mention, but won't, being the charitable sort.

Stormin' Norma was in Marco Pierre White's fancy eaterie in Donnybook last weekend, eating a burger. Somehow I wouldn't have put the fabulously chic ex-wife of multi-millionaire Michael Smurfit as the burger type. But burger it was.

She came in at around 8pm on the Saturday with a female friend and left at 10pm.

Georgia Salpa, perhaps unsurprisingly, is the owl to Norma's lark. The Grecian wonder was out with bessy mate Michelle McGrath in House on Leeson Street late on Saturday night. The two lovelies were joined by a gaggle of glam gal pals. They had a table on the VIP terrace and were drinking Prosecco. I raise my glass to them.

Forget all this nonsense about dry January – the only way to get through the month is to drink your way through it. Well, it's worked for me.

Shazza takes it slow with new beau as she and Nadia get ready to party

BESTIES: Sensational Sharon McHugh with the equally stunning Irish supermodel Nadia Forde will be painting the town red

IT could be a knock-out, but give it time. Sharon McHugh, the beautiful ex-girlfriend of Irish boxing legend – and potential Fine Gael councillor – Kenny Egan, is dating a new man.

Sharon, who is TV3's hot PR guru beyond compare since last June handling the media for everyone at the station, from the Xpose girls to the boyo Browne, was spotted in the Anvil restaurant in Saggart, near where she lives, looking very cosy two weeks ago with her new man. They were also seen in 37 on Dawson Street the week before.

Friends of the ambitious blonde, who was with Egan for two years until they split up in March 2011, say that sexy Shazza is taking it very slow with her mystery new beau.

She is, however, taking a fast plane to London next week, making a solo trip to hook up with her VBF and Irish supermodel, Nadia Forde. They'll be painting the town red because Friday is Sharon's 32nd birthday. So it's party time in London town.

Incidentally, I spotted Sharon in the upstairs cafe in Brown Thomas on Monday afternoon and she looked sensational.
