Taylor Swift donates €13,000 to hero firefighter's injured family members
Pop singer Taylor Swift proved that she has the biggest heart in show biz, as she donated a sum of €15,000 to a Texan firefighter who rescued his family from a car accident.
Firefighter Aaron VanRiper responded to an emergency call last weekend, and was devastated to find that the plea for help had come from his own wife and son.
Amber Ven Riper and the couple's 7-year-old son Jonathan (also known as 'Bear') were left seriously injured after the pile-up, which involved several vehicles.
Jonathan was left with an injured arm, and Amber, who remains in hospital, suffered a broken pelvis and was forced to undergo a nine hour surgery.
“My wife was laying there on the ground. (By) the look of the car, I don’t know how either one of them lived. There was nothing left of that car,” Aaron Van Riper, Assistant Chief for the Thomas Lake Fire Department, told ABC News in wake of the incident.
The VanRiper family did not have health insurance and were faced with massive medical bills.
A friend of the couple set up a GoFundMe initiative in an attempt to fundraise and help cover some costs.
The VanRipers were shocked to find that none other than Taylor Swift (25) had pledged a sum of $15,000 (approx €13,320) to the cause.
It has been verified that the donation was genuinely made by the hitmaker.
Mandy Kibby, who set up the page for the VanRipers told Buzzfeed that she couldn't believe it.
"This woman is amazing,” she praised.
"I thank her from the bottom of my heart," the firefighter added.
The page eventually raised over $100,000 for the family.
