Let the contestants see the romance. There could be more sparks on the island of Fernando's as Take Me Out returns for a new series.

ITV's Saturday night dating show, hosted by Paddy McGuinness, has been renewed for an eighth series, comprising 10 episodes, in 2016.

The Lancashire-born funnyman and TV matchmaker, 42, promised it would be "one of the best" ever seasons.

McGuinness said: "We witnessed some unusual twists of fate during the last series which proves the Take Me Out love lift works in mysterious ways.

"I'm looking forward to all the dates to come and, with 2016 being a leap year, I'm curious to see if our Flirty Thirty have any surprises in store that might lead to another wedding - fingers crossed. Series eight is going to be one of the best yet."

Spin-off programme Take Me Out: The Gossip, presented by Mark Wright and Laura Jackson, will also be back on ITV2.

"It's that time of the year when I get to pack my shorts, sun tan lotion and head out to the Isle of Fernando's to bring viewers all the backstage gossip from the best dating show on TV," Wright said.

"With Casa Fernando playing host to some lasting love matches last series, I have no doubt that Cupid will be pretty busy again this year."

Jackson added: "I am so thrilled to be back for another year of Take Me Out: The Gossip. Last series was full of fun, laughter, love and a few tears. I can't wait to get back to the Isle of Fernando's with Mark."

The show, which sees eligible men picking from a selection of 30 females, has led to five engagements, four weddings and two babies since it premiered in 2010, as hopefuls leave their lights on for lucky lovers.
