Saoirse Ronan beams as she jets out of Los Angeles after Golden Globes win
Awards season might be just beginning, but Saoirse Ronan is checking out - at least for now.
The 23-year-old Irish actress had a night to remember on Sunday when she scooped her first Golden Globe award (her third nomination) for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her turn in the critically beloved Ladybird. But it's back to reality as she jetted out of LAX on Monday and flew to New York.
And she was dressed exactly how you would expect an off-duty A-lister to be for travel: wearing a combination of high street and high end attire. She went makeup free, wrapping up in a black coatigan, a backpack by Swedish outdoor company Fjällräven Kanken paired with a Chanel mini flag bag and a pair of Ace embroidered runners by Gucci, one of her preferred brands.
Saoirse is not only considered the most promising talent of her generation onscreen, she is considered one of the best dressed stars in Hollywood, irrespective of age, and sends an equally empowering message off screen; in particular with her Golden Globes look. Her stylist Elizabeth Saltzman told British Vogue that she was insistent on one thing throughout the entire glam process - she wanted to only work with a team of women.
"Saoirse and I had a conversation at the beginning of the season that should Lady Bird (the film which Ronan is nominated for Best Actress) go the distance, we wanted to work with all females - female make-up, female hairstylists, female designers - and that we would never talk about it to anyone," she explained. "It would be our fun secret, our empowering moment."
Saltzman also praised the Time's Up movement and actresses' decision to wear all black to the awards, saying designer Donatella Vesace "immediately got it" when she was discussing Saoirse's dress, which catapulted her to the top of best dressed lists around the world.
"It’s not about sex, it’s about strength," she said. "It’s not about frivolity, it’s about confidence, excellence, purity and support. I don’t care what colour it is, I just want the world to recognise what Saoirse brings to the screen.
"What’s so nice this time is that this isn’t a publicity stunt, this is people bonding, and talent coming together to support talent. It's a great way to start 2018."
We'll be seeing Saoirse next on the red carpet on January 21 at the SAG Awards.
