Roz Purcell on former model boss Donald Trump: 'He's turned into an alter ego - I don't agree with any of his policies'
Top Irish model Roz Purcell said her former New York model boss Donald Trump has "turned into an alter ego" since she last met him.
The former beauty queen was represented by Trump's agency in 2010 after coming in seventh at the Miss Universe competition, where the billionaire businessman personally endorsed her. And she said she's frequently asked about her thoughts about his political campaign as the only Irish model to have worked with him.
"Loads of people are always asking me about him,” she told Independent.ie. "Not many Irish people have met him personally. It’s just mad because he has obviously changed since I’ve seen him."
But Roz distanced herself from the US presidential Republican frontrunner, saying she doesn't agree with "any of his policies."
"He was very polite, he was always so nice and loved Ireland. I guess his personality has grown now and he’s turned into this alter ego. It’s strange to watch," she added.
"I wouldn’t agree with any of his policies and I hope he doesn’t win. It’s mad to watch. I keep thinking, ‘Is this real life?’ Maybe he always had those believed, but it [Miss Universe] wasn’t the place to say them."
Roz lived in New York for a year before moving back to Ireland in 2011, saying she quickly tired of the competitive and unhealthy model industry in the US.
"Five days a week I would just eat veg and at the weekends we would splurge on cupcakes," she told the Irish Daily Mail of her days in New York.
"I would run and run and run maybe 14 kilometers every day and downing coffee. I can never drink Starbucks again because I was using it to suppress my appetite. It reminds me of being really hungry. I came back and realised I would never go through that again."
Roz was speaking at the launch of Imedeen’s Reveal Your Real campaign, encouraging Irish women to embrace their natural beauty. And unlike most of the social scene, she said she isn't stressing about the upcoming Peter Mark VIP Style Awards on May 6.
"I don’t like to overthink things. I go for the food," she laughed. "I’m just going to sit with my sister and eat everyone’s dessert. I’ve always eaten everyone’s dessert. I have no self control."
