Rory McIlroy won’t be asking for his eight-carat diamond engagement ring back from Caroline Wozniacki.

The former world number one golfer (25) has indicated that he will be allowing his former fiancée (23) keep her €150,000 sparkler after calling off the engagement.

A close source said: “They were together nearly three years and that time meant a lot to him so he would like to see her keep the ring.”

Rory, worth an estimated €30m,
went down on bended knee after a New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Sydney.

The source said there was “no third party” involved in the split, which came like a bolt out of the blue on Wednesday morning.

“There were lengthy conversations in the last few days between them
but a joint statement was never going to be a possibility,” the source added.

The break-up came after Rory and Caroline sent out their Save the Date’ cards, which started arriving with their friends and families last weekend. The pair had hired a Californian-based wedding planner to help them plan their big day, which was pencilled in for a New York venue on November 8.

In his statement, McIlroy said that it was only after the wedding cards were dispatched that he realised he wasn’t ready for such a big commitment. Caroline has yet to comment.
