Rory McIlroy 'happy' for ex Holly Sweeney's baby news
Rory McIlroy has broken his silence on the news of his childhood sweetheart's pregnancy.
The former world number one golfer was in a relationship with Holly Sweeney on and off for six years, and just one week after he ended his engagement to Caroline Wozniacki - Holly's baby news was revealed.
"I'm happy for her," he said last night. "You know, it’s great to see she’s happy – all good.”
Sweeney is said to be six months pregnant with her boyfriend, hockey player Jeff Mason's child.
The 24-year-old University of Ulster graduate has maintained her silence on her ex's shock split with Wozniacki last month.
She is expected to move to Holywood, Co Down (where she once shared a home with Rory) after finally selling her penthouse apartment for €830,000 in Belfast, which was on the market for nearly two years.
The 1,898 sq ft duplex previously hosted BBC's NI House Of The Year and has views of Belfast's harbour, with several balconies, a rooftop garden, a grand piano and fine art – not to mention space to house her dozens of pairs of Christian Louboutin heels.
However, the reality star and model has been unable to sell the property over the past two years and slashed the hefty price tag twice.
Selling it for €200,000 less than she was initially hoping for, Sweeney agreed a sale for “in and around” her current asking price of €600,000, a source confirmed to the Herald.
“The offer was accepted back in October but there was some kind of hold-up,” the insider said.
During the time McIlroy's ex could not shift the property, Sweeney let it to the cast and crew of HBO's hit series Game Of Thrones, who rented it for a number of months while filming in Belfast.
When she moved out, she returned to live with her dad outside Belfast and has been on the lookout for a small country home for herself and her dogs.
