Rory McIlroy confirms wedding date to fiancée Erica Stoll
Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will wed fiancée Erica Stoll next summer.
The Northern Irish golfer was reported to be marrying on New Year's Eve, but he told The Telegraph he and the PGA employee, whom he met in 2013, will exchange vows next year.
It's believed they will be celebrating their wedding at Ashford Castle in Mayo, but McIlroy wouldn't divulge any other details about the big day,
"We want to keep it to ourselves as much as we possibly can," he said.
"Erica loves Ireland. It’s very similar to the place where she grew up, in Rochester, upstate New York, where it’s also very green and leafy."
The former world number one credits his other half for giving him the ability to be a "normal person" at home, contrary to his previous relationship with ex-fiancée Caroline Wozniacki which was more public.
"It’s a bit like yin and yang, in terms of what I do on the course and how, when I get home, I’m able to detach myself and just be a normal person," he added.
"It’s great to have that balance, and Erica has given me that. She has made me realise that this is what I want, what I need."
He recently celebrated an early "stag" night with friends in Dublin, including a private tour on Dublin Bay Cruises and a night out in Xico on Baggot Street.
He and Erica have been spending more and more time in Dublin in recent months, making the most of the summer in the capital.
