Remember Avril Lavigne? She's 33, healthy and ready to get back into the limelight
Avril Lavigne is back to her best.
The Canadian singer was a noughties superstar, with three hit singles and easily identifiable signature style: pink streaks in her hair, cargo pants, a tight sleeveless top and a somewhat inexplicable tie.
After a rocky few years in her personal life, including two divorces and a Lyme disease diagnosis, she has been focusing her efforts on her health recovery, while also pursuing her biggest passion - music. After being diagnosed with the ifnectious disease in 2015, she has taken a break from the spotlight and on Friday night, she walked her first red carpet in over two years.
Lavigne was part of the star-studded guestlist at the annual Race To Erase MS Gala at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, and she has served on the Board of the Directors of the charity for eight years.
She split with ex-husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger in 2015 after two years together, and she was previously married to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley for four years before splitting in 2010.
Right now, she says it's all about her music and she'll be releasing her first studio album in five years.
"It's a really powerful record. I've been working on this for three years. I can actually say this time I'm going to be done with this album in two weeks and I will put it out this year," she told E! News.
"I've been writing songs that are really just powerful and true and honest and sincere and I think people will really be able to relate to it," she said. "I've gone through a lot of personal stuff in the past two years and so I've really drawn from that. I mean, I always do but this album is so different...I am producing, too, the songs.
"It's more of a vocal record and just like, hearing the lyrics and really hearing the emotion in the vocal. It's very piano-driven, too."
