Hollywood sex symbol Raquel Welch has revealed why she has never stripped off.

The 75-year-old actress has refused to take all her clothes off on screen or pose naked throughout her career spanning five decades, saying it is the way she has been brought up.

She told Piers Morgan on his Life Stories show: "I am my father's daughter and that's just not the way you behave. You don't do that if you are a certain kind of a woman and that's the kind of woman I was raised to be.

"There were times when I disliked him quite a lot but at the same time I had enormous respect for him. I really did want to please him."

Welch, who became a pin-up in the 60s and 70s after appearing bikini-clad in movies such as One Million Years B.C., Flareup and Bedazzled, turned down Hugh Hefner even after he called her "boring".

She eventually posed for his Playboy magazine in 1979, wearing a high-cut red swimsuit, and received her full payment even without the full nudity photo shoot.

She recalled: "I got called into the front office to speak with Hugh in his bathrobe. I went over to the mansion and I brought my lawyer with me and I sat there in front of him and I said, 'What's the problem Hugh?' and he said, 'Well there's no tits and there's no ass'.

"I said, 'Isn't that the deal we made?' He said 'Yes, but it's boring'."

Mother-of-two Welch, who has been married four times, also spoke of her colourful love life, having dated Warren Beatty, Steve McQueen and Dudley Moore in the past.

"He's been with everything. Anything that moves. I mean he's a famous lothario," she said of Beatty.

She also described McQueen as "lovely" and Moore "adorable".

The actress, who said she has enjoyed some "platonic dates", said she has no regrets about her failed marriages but doubts whether she would walk down the aisle again. She separated from her fourth husband, restaurateur Richard Palmer, in 2008.

"I had real feelings for all of those men. At the time I thought I was legitimately in love and that we could make a great life together, but it wasn't in the cards," she told Morgan.

"Sometimes it was because people were with me because of who I was and what I could bring to the table. While I'm away working they like to start controlling the finances and all kinds of other things, and when I find out about that, I'm not happy ..."

Welch added: "I'm too set in my ways. I like what I do, I actually enjoy being me and I make a very good living at it and I'm happy. I don't have to have a man.

"He's not going to support me, and a lot of men don't like that. I mean they like it in the beginning, they like the whole attraction and the sort of dance that we all do, but they don't really like the fact that when we go some place together I become the person that's focused on. It just doesn't work well with the male/female relationship."

However, the lack of romance is not bothering the actress.

She told the presenter: "I'm just content. I feel like I've had a very lovely, beautiful life. I don't know exactly what's around the corner. It's not bothering me that much."

Piers Morgan's Life Stories will air on ITV at 9pm on Friday.
