Prince William jets to Japan...while Kate Middleton is being courted for Vogue cover
There's never a dull day with the Cambridges.
Prince William has landed in Japan ahead of his four-day royal tour, while Kate Middleton is preparing for the arrival of their second child in April and fending off offers from US Vogue.
The Duke of Cambridge will spend the next four days visiting China and Japan in order to promote UK relations with both countries.
The most recent trip to Japan from a member of the royal family was in 2008 when Prince Charles and Camilla visited.
The second-in-line to the throne spoke about alternative occupations when he chatted to Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi, who is famous in Japan for spending six months on the International Space Station in 2009/10, and Andy Palmer, Aston Martin's chief executive.
Mr Noguchi presented the Duke with a patch worn on his spacesuit during his epic 177-day stint away from Earth.
William, who will start his job as an air ambulance pilot in the summer, joked: "I take it you've washed it."
But when asked if he would consider training to fly into space, he said: "I don't think my Eurocopter will make it that far up.
"It seems like an awfully long way from the ground."
He added: "When I was younger, I dreamed of being an astronaut, but I also wanted to be a policeman or a fire-breather. That might have been a bit alternative."
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge is said to the only choice to cover US Vogue's much lauded September Issue.
Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has had her eye on Kate featuring on the cover for several years, but is reportedly determined to make it happen in 2015.
"Anna knows landing Kate for the September issue would be a huge coup, especially since Prince William's wife has never done a magazine feature for a US publication," an insider told Radar Online.
"The focus of Kate's feature would be her numerous charity endeavors, which Anna has conveyed to Kate's staff."
She has never posed for a magazine, but the pictures, show by Mario Testino, for their 2010 engagement, were featured in the style bible. The site reports that the expectant royal would have full control over the feature, including her choice of journalist, photographer, wardrobe and location.
When Prince William returns to the UK, the next date in their diary is to appear at the annual Commonwealth Observance service on Monday, March 8th.
