Prince Harry seals an immodest proposal with a kiss
Royal protocol went out the window yesterday when Britain's Prince Harry kissed a 21-year-old tiara-wearing woman on the lips, who then asked him to marry her three times.
On the final day of his month-long secondment with the Australian military, he visited the Sydney Opera House and was coaxed into a conversation with Victoria McRae, a university student carrying a sign reading: "Marry me, last chance, Harry".
Ms McRae had attempted to propose to him two years ago during his visit for an international fleet review by paddling her kayak into the middle of Sydney harbour to wave a flag which read ''I (heart) U Harry''.
On this occasion, Ms McRae, wearing a dress displaying the Australian flag, succeeded in stealing a brief kiss as the surrounding crowds cheered.
"He let me kiss him on the cheek, but then I went in for it," Ms McRae told local media. "The rest was history. It was everything - I'm very happy. I reminded him it was the third [proposal]."
Harry (30) was asked about his new niece Princess Charlotte - whom he is due to meet later this month - and said "she's great".
He had been greeted by a 2,000-strong crowd at the Opera House. Many held signs distributed by a local radio station which read "Marry Me Harry", "Harry For PM" and "His Royal Hotness".
He spoke with a group of schoolchildren who were quick to direct him to their single teacher, whom he then called over and hugged. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
