Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'meet Britain's Queen Elizabeth for tea at Buckingham Palace' as engagement rumours swirl
An engagement announcement between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seems like an inevitability at this stage.
The couple have only been dating for a year and a half, but they've been serious about their future since the get-go and rumours of an engagement have been swirling for weeks. Reports are claiming that the pair are already secretly engaged, but enjoying this time to themselves before announcing it to the world. Other sources say they're waiting until Markle finishes filming season eight of her tv show Suits in Toronto and moving to London to be with her boyfriend full-time and dip her toe into royal life. One thing is for certain: they are in love.
And while meeting the potential in-laws can be intimidating for anyone, the American actress had the extra pressure of meeting Harry's grandmother, Britain's Queen Elizabeth for an extended afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace last week, only adding further fuel to the suggestions that an announcement is imminment.
It's unclear whether or not Meghan previously met the head of the British royal family, but she has already wowed his father Prince Charles and struck up a friendship with Prince William and Kate Middleton and perhaps most importantly, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
"Everything about the teatime meeting was deliberately informal, I am told," the Daily Mail reports. "In part it was to settle any nerves Meghan might have felt but also to ensure it was not widely publicised within the palace.
"After being driven in to the inner courtyard, the couple were said to have been whisked up to the Queen’s private sitting room on the first floor overlooking the palace gardens and Constitution Hill, and which is served by a lift."
When news of their relationship first went public last year, Meghan could be pictured carrying Whole Foods grocery bags as any other shopper would, but is now restricting her appearances around London to ensure her privacy.
It has also been reported that the tv star has quit her hit show, telling producers she won't be returning for another season after filming wraps. And much like his older brother and sister-in-law's expansive home in Norfolk, he's said to be house hunting in the country with his other half.
Meghan and Harry made their first public appearance earlier this month at the Invictus Games in Toronto, with a source
last week, an engagement seems all but imminent, but insiders are now claiming that the 32-year-old royal may have already popped the question to the American actress."I think it's already happened but they're holding the news back until she has finished on Suits," a source told Us Weekly. "I've never seen them happier. It's amazing."
