Pregnant Kathryn Thomas: 'Padraig is trying hard to slow me down, but I'm a force to be reckoned with'
RTE star Kathryn Thomas is reprioritising her life as she prepares to welcome her first child this spring.
The Operation Transformation host (39) announced in November she's expecting with fiancé Padraig McLaughlin. Thomas said she appreciates that her pregnancy has been "very easy so far", but doesn't think she'll get away "without a struggle".
"As for me, I have been very lucky, my pregnancy has been very easy so far and I've had virtually no nausea. Myself and Padraig feel that it took us very long to get where we are at now and maybe that was our struggle? Or maybe our struggle will be in the labour ward? I don't think you get away without a struggle and I'm not presuming it will be plain sailing, but so far, so good," she told VIP Magazine.
She spoke admirably on The Late Late Show last month about having two miscarriages as they tried for a family, saying she wanted to open up about her experiences in order to help break the stigma.
"There is totally still a stigma in Ireland about miscarriages and I do understand to a degree why it's not spoken about enough, because, for some reason, it's still taboo." she explained.
"And for others, it's their own way of dealing with that sense of loss. But for us, it wasn't just the miscarriages, it was the length of time it was taking to get pregnancy, like three years...and you have the stress of that on top of everything else as well.
"I've always thought of myself as very optimistic, but I was completely wall-fallen that we couldn't make this work. It is very testing on a relationship and especially on men, because while we women tend to talk about it, men bottle."
In addition to her hosting duties of the popular weight loss show, the famously fit tv presenter runs a health retreat Pure Results Bootcamp and is determined to keep up her exercise regime, with some tweaks, throughout her pregnancy.
"Psychologically, as well as physically, it was really important for me to stay active. but I've completely trained my training. All my workouts are at home, I'm doing a lot of body weights stuff, a lot of squats and lunges, keeping strength in the legs," she added.
"And pregnancy yoga is amazing. I'm going to a woman called Miriam Kerins who has this amazing way of making me to into this trance like state, for hours. She's the one who kind of reminds me of the miracle that is in inside me."
Thomas is in the middle of remodelling her home and has been busy documenting the before and after imagery on social media and has been mucking in as much as possible, not exactly to her fiancé's delight.
"God love him, he's [Padraig] trying hard to slow me down, but I am a force to be reckoned with. But yes, he's totally taking care of me.
