Plus-size model Iskra Lawrence is the picture of body confidence as she hits the beach in Miami
You know the tide is turning when you actually have a choice of plus-size models to admire.
British model Iskra Lawrence (27) is fast becoming a bastion of body confidence - she isn't covering up her curves in kimonos and swimsuits, she's hitting Miami beach in a killer two-piece and owning it. Iskra, who now lives in New York, has been pictured making the most of the Miami sunshine and putting on animpressive show for the paparazzi who have been hot on her heels there.
While the rest of us were wrapped up in multiple layers and traipsing through snow, she was soaking up the sun in a tiny navy blue bikini from American Eagle's Aerie range, before changing into a skintight denim mini-dress and accessorising with a pair of yellow aviator sunglasses.
Lawrence works as a successful commercial model and has become Insta-famous for her non-retouched photos (which happen to still look pretty amazing) and insists on giving only authentic pictures to her 3m+ followers.
"The response from my followers was incredible. In the last three or four years, my social media has really grown because it’s just been so real and honest. It’s great because I can just post things, throw them up and my followers know that it’s just really me," she told WWD.
"Then when I get to meet them, they say, 'Oh, you definitely don’t retouch. You look like that in person'. That is really cool."
"I had had my own trials and tribulations with body image. I had gone through a lot starting from my teenage years. It was definitely freedom to put my real self out there. Social media should be a true sense of who you are," she added.
"It felt wrong to edit out things that I didn’t feel were good enough to try to fit what society is telling me I should look like."
She joins an ever-growing list of women representing a more inclusive industry with Ashley Graham regularly breaking down barriers internationally and in Ireland and the UK is model blogger Louise O'Reilly.
