Nathan Carter has lab-elled his younger brother Jake a "s**t-stirrer" after he tried to convince the singer's legions of female fans that he was in a new relationship.

The Wagon Wheel singer posted a photo on social media in which he was smiling alongside his friend Bronagh Tierney, but fellow singer Jake decided to try to break the hearts of his brother's fans.

"Congrats guys, can't wait to celebrate," Jake wrote on his brother's Instagram account, causing followers to jump to conclusions.

However, Nathan has denied there is any romance brewing between the pair.

"He always stirs it up. Bronagh and I have been good pals for ages. Jake loves the banter, but unfortunately there's no big news. He knew exactly what he was doing, he's a little s**t-stirrer, but I plan on getting him back," he said.

Jake recently landed the lead role of Aladdin in a Christmas panto in Belfast, and Nathan acknowledged his own success helped pave the way for his brother. "It's definitely helped him in the last few years. On the other hand, people are always going to compare the two of us and that's not good for him," he said.

Nathan admitted he rarely takes time off work because he knows success in the music industry is not guaranteed.

"I don't know how long I'll be able to do this. That would always be in the back of my mind, you never know when this is going to end," he told the RTE Guide . "You don't know what's around the corner. I work hard, but I don't take much time off. You've got to be really focused in this business.

"I look back when I was 18 and all my friends were in uni, which I didn't get to do, and I do feel I missed out a little."
