Model Irma Mali reveals dedication to fitness: 'I went to the gym the day I went into labour'
While many women would be taking it easy in the days leading up to giving birth, model Irma Mali has revealed she was working out in the gym the morning her baby was due.
The Lithuanian beauty and boyfriend Barry McGuire welcomed son Kyle in January, it was the couple's first child and Irma's second - she has a 14-year-old daughter Nikoleta from a previous relationship.
Irma famously maintained her enviable abs throughout her pregnancy and showed a hint of a six pack even in her third trimester, sticking to her normal diet and fitness regimen, with tweaks for mothers to be.
"I go to the gym a lot. I went to the gym through the whole pregnancy," she said. "The day I had the baby, I was in the gym in the morning. I went to the gym and then I went to the hospital later on that day.
"With labour you get pain maybe every 30 minutes. I felt the pain, but I thought I would have loads of time."
Since welcoming the new arrival, Irma has taken something of an informal maternity leave, enjoying her bonding time with the baby, but like other models and actresses with sporadic income, sometimes you have to go back to work earlier than planned. But two things are always prioritised: motherhood and her health, which she treats at the gym.
"If I have a chance, I go to the gym because that's my priority. I'm doing a few jobs, I could be busy, but I'm choosing not to do much because I just had the baby," she added.
"He's a very good baby. He is a very happy baby and never cries, I'm very lucky," she said. "Of course, he wakes up looking for food and everything, but he doesn't cry like a baby usually cries." Irma said Barry has been a very hands-on dad.
"Barry's really good. I'm breastfeeding, so I obviously would be awake at night. But he's a really good dad," she said.
And her teenage daughter is relishing her new big sister role, saying: "She loves Kyle but she has her own busy life with school and dancing and competitions," she said.
Irma is now transitioning into acting after more than 10 years at the top of the modelling game and just last week, she was pictured entering the same building as Blake Lively, filming The Rhythm Section, although it's unclear what kind of role she has in the film.
