Mel Gibson (61) hits the red carpet with girlfriend (27) at LA premiere
Things appear to be stronger than ever between Mel Gibson and girlfriend of three years Rosalind Ross.
The 61-year-old actor and 27-year-old screenwriter have been together since 2014 and welcomed their first child - Gibson's ninth- in January. The couple hit the red carpet for the world premiere of Daddy's Home 2 in Los Angeles on Sunday night, with the new mother taking centre stage in a strapless red prom dress, in keeping with the film's Christmas theme.
"Regarding age and relationships, it's just a number. We dig each other," Ross said last year, addressing the criticism of their relationship due to the 34-year age gap between them.
"She is an adult and we dig each other," he added. "It might cause a problem and one has a trepidation about these things, but it's working out great. She is a really special person."
Gibson's turn in the comedy sequel, starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, is the latest coup in his redemption tour of Hollywood: he was exiled for 10 years after his meltdown when he was pulled over by the Los Angeles Police Department in which he said, "The Jews are responsible for all the wars!" Later, recordings of him in expletive filled rants to his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva were leaked and he was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery as a result of a January 2010 fight with her.
But last year's Hacksaw Ridge, for which he earned a Best Director Oscar nod, all but completed his comeback.
Last night's premiere saw the cast, including Linda Cardellini and Alessandra Ambrosio, kick off their publicity tour, which will take Wahlberg, Ferrell, Gibson and John Lithgow to Ireland next Wednesday, November 15, for a special premiere at the Savoy cinema. Gibson spent much of last year already filming around Ireland for The Professor and The Madman, with Sean Penn.
