Mrs Biggs star Daniel Mays is set to play a renegade policeman in a new series of Line Of Duty.
He joins the third series of the award-winning BBC Two drama, written by Jed Mercurio, as the leader of an armed response team whose erratic behaviour makes him a danger to everyone around him.
Mays, who played bankrobber Ronnie Biggs alongside Sheridan Smith as his wife in Mrs Biggs, said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the unbelievably talented cast of Line Of Duty series three. Jed Mercurio has once again delivered a thrilling and emotionally raw script which I feel incredibly honoured to be a part of."
He joins returning cast members Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar in the show about an anti-corruption unit working within the force.
Mercurio said: "I'm deeply grateful to the BBC for giving me the opportunity to work on another series of Line Of Duty. I'm very much looking forward to resuming a creative partnership with our regular cast, crew and production team and to working with the hugely talented Daniel Mays on this riveting new character."
Filming starts in Belfast later this month.
