Matt Damon's joke awards speech

Matt Damon entertained guests at the World Economic Forum by giving the Golden Globes acceptance speech he never got to make.

The actor lost out at the Globes to his Behind The Candelabra co-star Michael Douglas for the best actor in a TV movie gong. And Michael also pipped Matt to the post at the Screen Actors Guild awards when they were both nominated for the same performances.

So Matt took the chance to laugh off his losses when he took to the podium at the Economic Forum in Switzerland to accept the Crystal Award for his social, environmental and humanitarian work, including co-founding, and had the audience in stitches, E! news reported.

The Oscar-winning star said: "This is a really, really big honour and I want to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association... Wait, this is the wrong speech.

"This is the Golden Globes speech I never got to give."

He went on "I know I didn't win, but to be honest I kind of want to give this speech anyway. It's pretty good. There's this part where I talk about what it was like working with Michael Douglas, and I get kind of emotional. It's really good!

"Then I get a big kiss from Bono... Anyway, I'll do that next year maybe."

Michael has paid tribute to Matt when accepting his awards for Behind The Candelabra this year.

At the Globes he said: "Matt Damon, the bravest, most talented actor I've ever worked with. And the only reason you're not here is... I had more sequins."
