Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, Viola Davis among stars at Women in Film pre-Oscars event
It was the 11th annual event held by the organisation.
Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and Emma Stone were among star guests at the annual Women in Film event, which celebrated the female nominees at this year’s Oscar Awards.
Held two days before the prestigious awards ceremony, stars attended the cocktail party at the Crustacean restaurant in Beverly Hills.
Robbie, who is nominated for best actress at the Oscars for her role in I, Tonya, was among other nominees including director Greta Gerwig, who is up for best director and also best original screenplay for Lady Bird, and Diane Warren, whose song Stand Up For Something from the film Marshall is up for best original song.
Davis, who won the best supporting actress Oscar last year for Fences, gave an impromptu speech at the reception.
According to the Associated Press, Davis told the audience that women should be praised for “all of our imperfections, complexities and confusion”.
She said: “This is a year of owning who we are. Even the women who are still in silence, the women who stepped up and spoke up, the women nominees, the women who could have been, should have been nominees. We’re all worth it.
“That’s what we need to come into the room with. That’s what we need to go into 2018 and 2019 with. The privilege of a lifetime is being exactly who we are.”
Friday’s event marked the 11th annual Women in Film pre-Oscars party, hosted by the organisation’s president Cathy Schulman.
