Lucy Kennedy on keeping things natural: 'I think it's refreshing to see someone who hasn't had work done'
TV star Lucy Kennedy is blazing a trail all her own - her transition from RTE stalwart to TV3 darling seems like a lifetime ago and she is embracing her role with the broadcaster with gusto.
The mother-of-three is fronting Ireland's Got Talent and teases a return to radio, but what we know for certain is that she is determined to do things her own way; least of all when it comes to being comfortable in her own skin. She's at the helm of the primetime Saturday night spot after a turn on The Six O'Clock Show and as such, is under more scrutiny than the average presenter - but after more than a decade n the public eye, she's used to it and isn't caving.
"I've been talking about it for 10 years and realistically I'm afraid of the dentist so I'm not going to do it," she told VIP magazine. "There are times when I look at the line in my forehead and think, 'Oh God I wish it wasn't there' but I don't wish it wasn't there enough to get botox.
"Actually I think it's quite refreshing to see someone who hasn't had work done."
It's clear she prides herself on being down-to-earth off camera as well as onscreen, saying: "A lot of people say, 'Oh my God, you're actually just like me'. I'll have a spot on my chin or I won't have my nails done or one of my eyebrows will be having a party while the other one looks okay. Everybody is like that.
"Nobody walks around airbrushed or photoshopped and I think it's refreshing for people when they see that reflected on the telly."
Kennedy has been with husband Richard Governey for 18 years, and they have a busy household with three children under six, and she says there's no secret to keeping a happy home, just good old fashioned liking each other's company.
"We are together 18 years, he's my best friend. I love him, we laugh a lot. He travels quite a lot for work so our time together is quality time. He is the most consistent thing in my life, I know that no matter what happens, I'll be okay because I have him.
"We try [to have a date night] but if I'm totally honest we actually love doing things together as a family because they're all so delicious. I'm not really a party girl anyway, I'm actually quite nerdy in real life. I like to be in bed fully cleaned at 11!"
