Love match! Tennis star and Sports Illustrated model Eugenie Bouchard goes on date with student after losing bet
Canadian tennis star and Sports Illustrated model Eugenie Bouchard went on a date with an unknown fan after losing a Super Bowl Twitter bet but romance seems to be blossoming between the pair.
During the Super Bowl, Bouchard took to Twitter to predict that Atlanta Falcons would clinch the title and a fan - named John Goehrk - responded and asked if she would go on a date with him if her prediction turned out to be false.
"If Patriots win [can] we go on a date?" Goehrke tweeted. "Sure," Bouchard (22) fired back, confident in her prophesy as the Falcons were 21-0 ahead at the time.
Sure enough, New England pulled off completed a miraculous comeback, winning 34-28 in overtime.
Bouchard stuck to her word and flew John, a 20-year-old student at the University of Missouri - to an NBA game in New York.
She secured courtside tickets for the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night.
"Just met my 'Super Bowl Twitter Date' John. On our way to the @BrooklynNets game!" the Wimbledon 2014 finalist wrote on Twitter.
The date seemingly went well and Bouchard tweeted regular updates to her one million followers, including a picture of Goehrke kissing her on the cheek at the end of their date.
“I planned the date. He picked me up at my hotel like a gentleman, then we came over here, he brought me a nice little gift and he enjoyed the game courtside,” the 22-year-old told TMZ. “I'm lucky he's normal. For sure (there will be a second date).”
After all the media attention it got, it was something I could, first of all, not back out of. There was no chance," she said.
“I was worried, however, when I looked at his Twitter profile as soon as I lost the bet and his profile picture was a picture of Tiger Woods. I was like, ‘It’s one of those Twitter fans. I don’t even know what he looks like. What is going to happen?'
"But it turns out he seems to be a very nice boy."
The student said it was "amazing" that Bouchard had agreed to stick to their bet.
Earlier in the week, Goerkhe had told the Kansas City Star'newspaper that he never believed the world number 44 would agree to the cheeky date request.
"The most amazing part is that she agreed to it without knowing who I was," he explained.
"I thought maybe there was a chance she would respond, but I thought there was no chance she’d actually agree to it."
