Louise Redknapp finally breaks silence on 'split' with husband of 19 years Jamie
Louise Redknapp has finally opened up about her split from husband Jamie.
It was reported in July, after months of speculation, that the couple, who tied the knot in the summer of 1998, had made the decision to end their marriage. It's thought they requested a quick divorce to ensure they can both move on as soon as possible and Louise spoke about the rumours for the first time during an interview on ITV's This Morning on Friday.
Talking to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, the former Eternal singer - who shares two sons Charles, 13, and eight-year-old Beau with the football player - insisted their kids come first.
"I think it's been so heavily documented and of course we all go through hard times and my priority and his priority is our children and protecting them and keeping as much private as possible and loving them and putting them first. That’s really what we’re focusing on," she explained.
The 42-year-old also credited a busy work life for helping take her mind off things during the stressful period, as she's gearing up to make her pop comeback and and is currently starring in London's stage production of Cabaret. She made her debut as lead character Sally Bowles earlier this month alongside Will Young as The EmCee.
"Going back to work has been a saviour for me," Louise added. "And it does something. It’s all about performing, and going back on stage every night – and to get the opportunity again – you don’t always get that in this business."
The star touched upon participating in Strictly Come Dancing last year too, admitting she felt "terrified" at first but that the programme helped her embrace the spotlight once more.
"That experience made me realise how much I wanted to be onstage," she smiled. "Sometimes in life you have to be fearless. It's really hard hard to be fearless, especially as you get older, it's much harder."
