Legendary actor Mickey Rooney dies at 93

Mickey Rooney has died aged 93.

The Hollywood actor had been battling with ill health for some time and it's been confirmed he passed away yesterday, surrounded by family at his North Hollywood home.

Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith said there was nothing suspicious about his death and that there are currently no other details about the cause.

Mickey began acting in the '20s and his impressive list of films includes 1938's Love Finds Andy Hardy, which also starred Judy Garland, and Audrey Hepburn classic Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The 5ft. 3in. actor was known for his cherubic face and enjoyed many dalliances with beautiful women. He was married eight times, including to star Ava Gardner, who became his first wife in 1942.

Mickey wed Jan Chamberlin in 1978, but they separated in May last year and the actor sold their house and split the proceeds. He was always adamant that he would marry each of his ex-wives again, given the chance.
