Kylie Minogue reflects on split with ex-fiancé Joshua Sasse: 'I was quite fragile'

Kylie Minogue has opened up about her split with former fiancé Joshua Sasse, saying that 2016 was "not a good time for me".
The 49-year-old singer is back promoting her new album Golden after taking a break from the spotlight, pouring her energy into her time in the studio. She split with the British actor (31) in February 2017 after two years together,
"Making this album was a kind of saviour. The end of 2016 was not a good time for me. So when I started working on the album in 2017 it was, in many ways, a great escape," she told The Sun.
"I was quite fragile when I started work on it but being able to express myself in the studio made quick work of regaining my sense of self - writing about various aspects of my life, the highs and lows, with a real sense of knowing and of truth. And irony. And joy. If there’s one love that will always be there for you, it’s music. Well, it is for me, anyway."

She recently described her new music as "cathartic" and a breakdown of her lyrics shows a new vulnerability in the singer.
"In the studio it's a slightly weird concept to be spending seven, eight, nine hours in a room with people sometimes you don't know. If you're working with good people it's the perfect place to deal with stuff," she added.
"There's a little bit of heartbreak, I would say. Mostly I try to reflect where I am. Definitely, in the last year, there's been some of that but we bounce back. Most of it is super positive and inspiring, as a note to self as much as anything else. I'm feeling great right now."
At the time of her split, it was reported that the superstar songstress was "heartbroken" after she ended their relationship amid rumours of infidelity.

"She is absolutely devastated, totally heartbroken. She really believed he was The One. But she no longer trusts him," an insider said at the time.
And in the run-up to their wedding, she never shied away from speaking about her affection for her other half, admitting that she would be taking his surname after they wed. .
"Sasse is a great name. Kylie Sasse is a great name. It’s a great stage name. Kylie Minogue has never exactly tripped off the tongue," she told YOU magazine.
"I’ll definitely be taking Sasse but there will be Minogue in there somewhere. Taking a different name makes a statement.
"Nobody wants to be Mr Minogue. It takes a very strong man to put themselves in that position and I fully appreciate that. The world around you sees it differently and a lot of guys can’t deal with that. When I look into Josh’s eyes, he is all I see and that makes me very happy.
"There’s a line in the movie Notting Hill that I always think of, when Julia Roberts is talking to Hugh Grant, and she says, "I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her." For me, it’s that simple.'
