TV host Lorraine Kelly has praised high street fashion retailers for making better maternity clothes in the wake of the Duchess of Cambridge's pregnancies.

Kate maintained her elegant style throughout her pregnancies with Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

But Kelly recalled the horrors of her own ward robe when she was pregnant with her daughter, Rosie, in the 1990s.

"After the Royal births, I think f ashion for women who are pregnant is so much better," she said.

"When I was pregnant with my daughter you wore a tent with dots on it and a big spotty puffy bow on the front.

"Nobody looks good like that. It's got a lot better now because it doesn't matter what age you are you still want to look fashionable."

Kelly, 55, also claimed British high street fashion was the envy of the world.

"No other country has got a high street like ours," she said. "They all try but it's not like ours.

"You see people like Beyonce coming over and they shop in Topshop.

"You can see fashion on the catwalk that is totally unaffordable for all but a small elite and then the high street can turn it round really fast. It's a homage but they do brilliant copies, let's be honest."

Kelly was speaking at Lorraine's High Street Fashion Awards which will feature on her self-titled ITV show from 8.30am tomorrow.
