Kathryn Thomas: 'I'm "greedy" for being childless...well that's what Pope Francis thinks'
RTE star Kathryn Thomas has hit out at Pope Francis on his recent comments describing couples who choose to remain childless as "selfish".
Writing in her 'Irish Daily Star' column today, the broadcaster criticised the Pope for his comments, suggesting he think carefully before making public proclamations.
"One minute he is going on about the fact that Catholics are breeding like rabbits and having too many children, the next he is choosing to say modern couples are selfish for choosing not to have them," she wrote.
She urged Pope Francis to be "more careful" in what he says.
"As the leader of the Catholic Church, he is supposed to show compassion and understanding, not insult people.
"Because I am childless in a modern world, does that make me greedy?
"Some couples choose to have children and others do not; surely that is their decision," the 36-year-old said.
"The days of being told how to live our lives by the Church are over.
"Yes we can follow our faith, pray to God, try to lead a good life. But when it comes to children and family life, in my mind, that is nobody else's business but their own," she concluded.
Kathryn, who hosts RTE prime time programmes 'Operation Transformation' and 'The Voice of Ireland', has openly discussed the possibilities of becoming a mother in the future.
In an interview with 'VIP' Magazine last month, the presenter said her "biological clock is ticking".
She has in the past been a supporter of companies such as Facebook and Google who allow their female employees a chance to freeze their eggs so that they can climb the professional ladder, which she herself has done.

Despite being vocal about the issue, she was at first "nervous" speaking out about it.
"I was nervous about speaking so openly about my experiences, and my own thoughts and feelings on something that is as personal and private as that, but I just think it's really important that women look at the different options that are available to them," she told the publication.
Kathryn has been with her partner, restaurateur Padraig McLoughlin, since summer 2013 and pair moved in together late last year.
The down-to-earth star has previously maintained that there are no plans for wedding bells in the near future.

"I've never really been that person, That's not to say that I wouldn't, but it doesn't hold a massive draw for me, in terms of the big white dress and the big day; it's not a priority," she said.
"I'm not going to say I'd rule it out though, and my mother and sister would love it, but right now I'm happy with the way things are going. It's still relatively new as well," she added.
