Kanye West has urged American voters to exercise their vote in the "extremely important" midterm elections.

The US rapper, who is married to Kim Kardashian, told his Twitter followers that he met President Barack Obama two weeks ago with his wife, and he'll be voting for the Democrat ticket today.

As public campaigning gives way to the privacy of the voting booth, the make-up of the lower chamber, the House of Representatives, and three dozen state governorships are also at stake.

President Barack Obama is not on the ballot midway through his second term, but acknowledges that his policies are.

Kanye West gave weight to the Democratic campaign by tweeting his support for it, with only a few hours left for Americans to have their voices heard at the polls.
