Kanye West taken to hospital for 'psychiatric evaluation' as he 'spirals out of control'
Kanye West has been taken to hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, sources say.
According to TMZ, the rapper has been taken to UCLA Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation after he was "acting erratically" at his trainer's home.
The police responded to a call for a welfare check on Kanye on Monday, TMZ reports.
The father-of-two was reportedly "resistant to going to the hospital," but he was "convinced" by his management to go.
He is said to have been handcuffed to a gurney while travelling to the hospital, "as standard protocol."
A source close to West told Page Six that the star is "having a nervous breakdown."
"He’s surrounded by all these crazy people, but there’s nobody he listens to or who can rein him in. He’s spiraling further and further out of control. Basically everything crazy he does is ‘art’ — canceling his tour is ‘art’ — he is becoming more and more unpredictable."
"He often stays up and works for 48 hours at a time when he’s on, and calls his team at 3am."
West cancelled the remaining 21 US dates on his Saint Pablo tour on Monday and is reported to be suffering from exhaustion.
The tour cancellation followed a demanding three months for West, who unveiled the new season of his Yeezy fashion line with an elaborate performance art event in September in New York.
In October, West's reality star wife, Kim Kardashian, was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, forcing the family to reassess their security and their high public profile.
Kardashian's mother Kris Jenner said West was "exhausted" after a "gruelling tour".
She spoke to reporters at the Angel Ball in New York shortly before news broke about her son-in-law's reported hospital treatment.
Addressing why West had cancelled his tour, Jenner told US TV show Extra: "He's exhausted, he's just really tired. He's had a gruelling tour and it's been a grind so he just needs some rest."
