A romantic trip away to Paris for her first kiddie-free weekend was how Jennifer Zamparelli planned to celebrate her milestone 40th birthday.
But instead, the RTÉ presenter is more than happy to settle for a pool party in her back garden with her two children Florence (5) and Enzo (2) and her husband Lau.
Today sees the 'Dancing with the Stars' co-anchor turning the big 4-0 as she enjoys a low-key birthday in lockdown.
"This is the first time ever in my life that I'm actually OK with my birthday and this happens. I had a trip to Paris planned just with Lau, our first time ever away from the kids," she told the Irish Independent.
"And do you know what? I don't mind in the slightest. I'm safe, my family are safe and healthy, and I'm going to enjoy a big fat gin and tonic in my garden in the sun today."
Yesterday saw many of her showbiz pals surprise her with a stream of birthday messages as everyone from Dermot Bannon to Joe Duffy wished her well.
Responding, she said she "thought she was going to get away" with not marking her birthday publicly. "I could just stay 39 for another year. So I'm kind of raging but secretly delighted.
"We have a blow-up pool, I'm going to get my bikini on and have a BBQ."
Until two weeks ago I had never heard of Caroline Flack. I don't watch 'Love Island' or read any celebrity news. She took her own life on February 15, and since then there has been relentless daily coverage.
It's all go for Jennifer Zamparelli when I meet her in RTÉ Radio Centre. It's only a Monday afternoon but her working week is already well underway, having hosted Dancing with the Stars the night before and a three-hour radio show that morning. She acknowledges that things are a bit hectic with the two shows running concurrently. "I find it gets a bit crazy towards the end of the run," she says, settling into a quiet corner of the canteen.
