Jennifer Zamparelli (née Maguire): 'I took my husband's name for our daughter'
RTE star Jennifer Maguire has revealed the real reason she took her husband Lau Zamparelli's surname - for their daughter.
The popular broadcaster (33) wed the Italian actor in July 2014 and they have a daughter Florence (eight months) together.
Eagle eyed fans spotted the Breakfast Republic host had changed her surname on social media last week, but Jennifer said that she legally changed her name to Jennifer Zamparelli soon after their nuptials.
"I did change it a year ago and it's still weird, but people said it takes years to get used to it," she told the Irish Daily Mail.
"I've actually been Zamparelli since I got married, but I suppose it takes awhile. I filled out a form during the week for Florence and realised I wanted to go the whole hog, so I changed it on Twitter and stuff."
The 2fm presenter is the latest in a line of Irish celebrities to reignite the name change debate, including Today FM star Mairead Ronan (nee Farrell) and model Georgia Penna (nee Salpa).
"I know a lot of people don't do it, but I got my name because my mum took my dad's name and as a family, I wanted us all to have the same surname. I wanted to have the same name as my daughter. I use it in work now too."
Meanwhile, she gushed about her excitement at celebrating Flo's first Christmas.
"I'm working right up until Christmas Eve and then we're off for a bit," she told The Herald. "We're having a lot of people over to ours for dinner on Christmas Day, there's about 10 of us. Lau's a great cook, and we'll have lots of extra pairs of hands to help. I'm really looking forward to it.
"We were watching the Toy Show on Friday, getting all excited. We were looking at all the toys and going, 'that would be so cool for Florence'. That's how you know you're getting old - when you're sat in watching the Toy Show instead of going out."
