Comedian Jason Manford was forced to cancel a show in Manchester after his daughter suffered a "nasty head injury".

Manford had been due to perform at the Middleton Arena on Thursday night, but pulled out just hours beforehand to take his daughter to A&E.

A spokeswoman apologised to fans in a Facebook post, citing a "family emergency".

The comic's daughter is now "totally fine" after a "bit of a scare", Manford later wrote on Facebook.

He apologised to ticket holders, explaining: " Really sorry to the people who were coming to my gig in Middleton tonight, my daughter had a nasty head injury at her Aerial Dance class and I had to rush her to A&E.

"I didn't know how serious it was or how long it would take, or even if I'd be in the right headspace to do a gig so I thought it was best to just cancel.

"As for my daughter, she is totally fine, bit of a scare for me and the staff at Stepping Hill (Hospital), as always, were wonderful."

The 35-year-old, who has four daughters and one son, reassured fans that he would make it up to them and that they would be able to get their money back.

" I will look at the diary for a possible replacement date but in the meantime please contact Box office who will reimburse tickets," he wrote.

"Thanks for being so understanding, you know I would never do it if it wasn't a genuine emergency."
