'I should have done it before' - Hugh Grant gushes over marrying Anna Eberstein
Hugh Grant said he's been so overcome with joy at his marriage to Anna Eberstein, he wishes he had done it before.
The Love Actually star married for the first time at the age of 57, to his partner of six years, a Swedish television producer and the mother of his three children.
Speaking on NBC's Today Show, he said he was thrilled with being a husband after marrying his long-term love in a low-key ceremony in London last month.
"It's really nice, I can't pretend it isn't," he said. "I should have done it before. I'm just lucky. I've got a great wife. I love her."
He went into greater detail about the practical reasons to USA Today about why they decided to wed, explaining that it was the difficult immigration process of having two different surnames while they travelled.
"We've got three kids together, we live together, and I didn't like the moment at immigration," he explained.
"Immigration people would say, alright, 'All the Grants through here,' and I'd go through with my children. And all the others through there. She'd go through with the nannies. It wasn't right.
"I still think it's a nonsense really and so does my wife by the way. But it just seemed like a nice cosy thing to do."
He has two other children Felix and Tabitha, from a previous relationship with Tinglan Hong
Grant has been vocal about his disbelief in the institution of marriage over the years, saying in 2015 that he has "seen very few good examples" and described it as a "recipe for mutual misery".
He was previously in a relationship with actress and model Elizabeth Hurley, but they split in 2000 after 13 years together and are famously now best friends.
