Former Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle has revealed that, contrary to popular belief, she was not the reason for the band's break-up last year.
The 29-year-old Derry native, who has been living in LA since 2004, says the decision was made by bandmates Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, and that she was kept in the dark.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Nadine said, "I didn’t want the band to end, it was as simple as that.I didn’t think we were going to end – we had done all the promo saying we were all together, having a great tour, wearing Victoria’s Secret wings and stomping up and down the catwalk every night, loving every single minute of it.
“And then, on the very last night of the tour, our management and publicist came up to me and said the girls wanted to split up the band. I was thinking, ‘What?!’
“I was in hair and make-up, about to get into my costume, and the show was starting in 20 minutes. I was shocked.
The singer admits she "screamed and cried" on and off stage for about 15 minutes before calming down.
The following day she tweeted, "You should know by now I had no part in any of this split business. I couldn't stop them. I had the best time & want to keep going."
Following the split, Nadine returned to LA where she became pregnant with daughter Anaiya (now 7 months old) by her partner and former American football player Jason Bell, and says she was surprised when she was named as the instigator of the split.
Despite the nature of the band's split, Nadine says she has "nothing against" her former bandmates.
Currently touring with Michael Flatley for his Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games tour, Nadine also has a successful restaurant, Irish Mist, on Sunset Beach in California.
