Harry Styles 'reduced to tears' over Zayn’s departure
Harry Styles was reduced to tears on stage after Zayn Malik’s departure from One Direction.
Just hours after the 22-year-old heartthrob announced he would be leaving the chart-topping boyband, the remaining four members performed in Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of their On The Road Again tour.
As Harry stood alongside bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan, he struggled to control his emotions as he came to terms with the magnitude of the situation.
Wearing a black T-shirt and with his famous hair teased into a man bun, Harry was seen with his hand up to his face as he let the tears flow.
Zayn announced his departure from One Direction in a poignant statement released to the public on Wednesday afternoon. In it he apologised to his fans but spoke of his wish to be a “normal 22-year-old”.
Sources close to the singer said that it was the level of fame the band had achieved that had eventually driven him to breaking point.
“He just wasn’t happy,” an insider told Us Weekly. “He felt he had gotten everything he can out of being in the band and that it was now time to change his life and be away from all the craziness. He was always the more shy and introspective one. The stress got to him and he just realised he wanted a normal life. It just got to be too much.”
On Wednesday night, as his former bandmates performed on the other side of the world, Zayn was pictured looking sombre as he left his London home.
With a baseball hat perched atop his head, Zayn appeared to be somewhat shocked that he had been caught on camera.
