A former teen TV star has been jailed for 12 months after she drove at more than four times the drink-drive limit while heading to her own hen party.

Emily Corrie, 36, of Twyford Avenue, Portsmouth, Hampshire, who starred in the Channel 4 show As If before joining the Royal Navy, was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court following the incident on August 28.

The court heard that Corrie, who played the role Sooz in the early 2000s programme, was seen driving erratically on motorways leaving the Portsmouth area and was stopped by officers on the hard shoulder of the A3(M).

She had been heading to Hertfordshire to attend her hen party and had even asked officers if she would still be able to go there.

A breath test showed she had 155mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35mg.

Corrie, whose character inspired McFly's debut number one single 5 Colours in Her Hair, was the only actor from the British series to star in the American version of the show.

But after she became disillusioned with life in Los Angeles, Corrie, who also had roles in Casualty, Doctors and the drama NY-LON, quit acting and joined the navy.

Corrie, who has since married, was sentenced to 12 months for dangerous driving and four months for excess alcohol, to run concurrently.

She was also banned from driving for three years and ordered to take a retest.
