Former 90210 star Shannen Doherty reveals cancer diagnosis
Shannen Doherty is battling breast cancer.
The 44-year-old actress revealed her illness as she filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against her former management company Tanner Mainstain Glynn & Johnson.
In the legal documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer back in March.
She is accusing her ex business managers and accountants of failing to correctly manage her money. She also alleges she didn’t know that when she was fired from the company, her insurance was terminated, meaning that she was uninsured as the cancer unknowingly spread.
According to the lawsuit, Shannen’s doctors have said that if the actress had been given the option of more drastic treatments earlier in her battle against the disease, it may have stopped the cancer from spreading.
“In November 2013, SAG sent the premium invoice to Tanner Mainstain for Plaintiff’s medical insurance coverage for the year 2014,” the complaint reads, according to the publication. “However, Defendants ignored it, failed to pay it (without informing Plaintiff) and then promptly terminated their relationship with [Doherty] effective February 7, 2014.”
“Plaintiff was also informed that, had she been insured and able to visit her doctor, the cancer could potentially have been stopped, thus obviating the need for the future treatment (including mastectomy and chemotherapy) that Plaintiff will likely have to suffer through now.”
It is unclear exactly what treatments Shannen has had for the cancer so far.
In addition to her lawsuit, the actress’ photographer husband Kurt Iswarienko is also suing Tanner Mainstain Glynn & Johnson and its former partner Steven D. Blatt.
Kurt claims that the company’s failure to manage the couple’s money correctly led to a host of financial troubles for the pair, including various tax audits and liens.
