'Fitting in is not all that matters' - Ellen DeGeneres gives touching speech at Teen Choice Awards
Ellen DeGeneres dedicated her Teen Choice Award win to wife Portia de Rossi as she picked up the prize on their seventh wedding anniversary.
The tv host was awarded the 'Choice Comedian' at the star studded ceremony in Los Angeles' Galen Theatre last night.
Winning the award on her seventh wedding anniversary, the comedienne dedicated the accolade to her spouse.
In her acceptance speech, Ellen (57) said, "'It feels good to be chosen, but there was a time in my life where I was not chosen - I was the opposite of chosen because I was different."
''And I think I want to make sure that everyone knows that what makes you different right now makes you stand out later in life, so you should be proud of being different. You should be proud of who you are.
''The most important thing I want to say is, just really embrace who you are because being unique is very, very important, and fitting in is not really all that matters. It's being unique and being who you are.''
Signing off, the chat show presenter looked at Portio (42) and concluded, ''And what an amazing day this is. This is my seven-year wedding anniversary, so happy anniversary. It's yours, too.''
