Whoopi Goldberg has hinted that she would have liked to film a sex scene at some point in her career.

The US actress joked with Jamie Dornan during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show as the actor discussed filming intimate scenes in the new Fifty Shades film, Fifty Shades Darker.

Dornan said: "There is more sex in the new film and all of us (actors) know how awkward sex scenes can be, so to make everyone laugh I would make silly noises when I had to climax."

He gestured to the other guests as he spoke, including Hollywood stars Denzel Washington and Keanu Reeves, as well as Goldberg

Goldberg, 61, said: "I love that you included me in that comment but I have never done a sex scene."

Asked why she had never filmed one, she said: "It wasn't my decision!"

The Oscar-winning actress praised Dornan as "a great kid and a great actor", and joked that she would have liked to be able to flirt with him but is too old to do so.

She said: "It would have been (weird to meet him) 10 years ago but now I see a great kid and a great actor.

"You can't go after him and you can't flirt, you've just got to be old!"

Goldberg said that her new one-off stand-up show, which takes place at the London Palladium on Saturday, is all about ageing.

She said: "My stand-up show is about getting older.

"I went to see Steely Dan the other day and I thought to myself, 'there are a lot of old people at this concert'.

"Then I passed a mirror and thought, 'me too! I'm not the youngest one in the room any more'."

Goldberg, Dornan, Washington and Reeves are joined by Brits Critics' Choice Award-winner Rag'n'Bone Man on The Graham Norton Show, which airs on BBC One on Friday at 10.35pm.

During an appearance on ITV's Loose Women, Goldberg revealed she was only cast in the 1990 film Ghost because Patrick Swayze said he would not appear in it unless she did.

She won the best supporting actress Oscar for her role in the fantasy thriller, which also starred Demi Moore.

She said: "(Patrick) got hired to do Ghost and asked them, 'Why hasn't Whoopi Goldberg? Have you talked to her?'.

"And they were like, 'No, no. We didn't go to her'. He said, 'No, no I'm not committing to this until I talk to her to see if she wants to do this movie'."

She said the casting directors had told her agent they were not interested in her, but Swayze persuaded her to go to the set.

Goldberg said: "So day comes and I go and he (Patrick) says, 'Why don't you want to do this movie?'. And I said, 'Wait, aren't you Patrick Swayze?'. And he says, 'Yes', and I said, 'What makes you think I don't want to do the movie? I'd love to do the movie, they said they didn't want me'.

"And he said, 'Do you want to do the movie?'. I said, 'If we can have some fun, yeah!'

"So he said, 'If you're not going to hire her, I am not going to be in this film'."

She added: "And then I got the Oscar for it."
