Eva Mendes has finally opened up about why she decided to skip awards season with Ryan Gosling.
Despite the fact that the actor was the toast of Tinseltown thanks to his turn in the award-winning La La Land, even earning a Best Actor Oscar nomination, but the famously private couple still preferred
Instead, Gosling (36) brought his sister Mandi as his Oscars date, causing a fan frenzy, and the Ghost Rider star (43) said she simply prefers being at home with the couple's two children Esmeralda (three) and Amada (10 months) than schmoozing.
In a rare interview with Shape magazine, Mendes said: "What people don't know about me is that I love being home. Instead of hitting the red carpet, I'd rather be with our girls."
She may have been physically absent on the red carpet this season, but she was clearly on her husband's mind as she paid a gushing tribute to her and their daughters while accepting his Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical.
"I just would like to try and thank one person properly, and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer," he said in February.
"If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, would surely be someone else up here other than me to today. Sweetheart, thank you.”
As the secrets to Mendes' killer figure, she drummed home the importance of weights and eating lots of protein.
"I have two babies now, two girls, and before I had them, I actually ran a lot more, I used to really love to run," she told the mag.
"But I've always been into light weights,. I really respond to weights and I feel like if I just do cardio, I don't get the results that I want. So it's very, very important for me to add weights into my workout.
"So I do a lot of jumps, squats—a lot of squats—lunges, and then intervals of like, sprinting within that. I have a really amazing person I work with, a trainer."
The mother-of-two describes herself as "off season" at the moment working out three times a week, so will up her gym game to five days a week when she is getting ready for an event or in the summer".
