Eoghan McDermott gushes about 'beautiful' girlfriend Aoife Melia: 'It's been really lovely living together'
RTE's Eoghan McDermott took the plunge and moved in with his doctor girlfriend earlier this year.
But the 2fm presenter said there are no pressing plans to pop the question to Aoife Melia, as they're simply enjoying being back together again after seven years apart.
They used to date while they were in UCD together before parting ways after they graduated.
But the couple rekindled their romance late last year.
"She's beautiful and has brains to boot. It's been really lovely living together," said Eoghan.
"It's been very uneventful, but in the best possible way in that it's been smooth sailing."
When asked if a proposal was on the cards, he replied: "No, not really, because we're only back together about a year. Hopefully that bit of chatter doesn't need to happen for a while."
Aoife will be joining him in Stradbally next week when he makes the annual pilgrimage to Electric Picnic to cover the festival for RTE.
"She's coming down, but I'm off the radar working on Friday and Saturday, so she'll go off with her mates and do her own thing and then I'll probably meet up with her on Sunday," said Eoghan.
"I'm really looking forward to it. I've never done Electric Picnic just as a punter. I've always worked at it," he said.
"This is my first year doing it without Jenny Green.
"She's just had such a mad year, so Blathnaid is stepping in for her. She'll be the roving reporter during the weekend and will be out and about with the crowds."
Eoghan also said it was nice to see organisers going for slightly different headline artists, such as Madness.
"The headliners this year would probably appeal to a bit of an older crowd," he said.
"People were saying before that EP was becoming very young and there had been no young person's festival in the last few years, but now you have things like Longitude.
"So it seems like organisers booked acts in the hope of pulling in a slightly older audience."
One act Eoghan is particularly looking forward to seeing is Elbow - for a very personal reason.
"I actually have a tattoo on my arm which is a line from one of their songs, Dear Friends, which is 'You are the stars I navigate home by'," he said.
"I'm really looking forward to them, Birdy and The xx."
Asked for his tips on lasting the pace over the Picnic weekend, Eoghan said it was all about steering clear of the spirits.
"It's a long weekend, so I tend not to drinks spirits," he said. "They used to make me aggressive, not in a violent way, but more in a smart- arse way, so now I drink beer and make sure to have a few glasses of water in between."
