Downton cast mock water pic blunder
Downton Abbey came under fire for releasing a promotional photo with a modern prop accidentally left in the background, but now the cast has poured water on the flames of the controversy with a charity snap.
Last week, a photo to publicise series five of the ITV drama was circulated of Hugh Bonneville and Laura Carmichael in character as the Earl of Grantham and Lady Edith Crawley - but in the background of the 1920s set was a plastic water bottle which had been left on the mantelpiece they were standing in front of.
Now, the cast have hit back by poking fun at the blunder while raising awareness of the charity WaterAid, by posing for a shot that shows every one of them holding up a plastic water bottle and looking sheepish.
An ITV spokesman said: "After seeing the reaction the picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters.
"They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity - WaterAid."
