Donal Skehan says wife Sofie used 'Swedish Viking strength' as they welcome first child
Celebrity chef Donal Skehan and his wife Sofie have welcomed their first child into the world.
The RTE star (31) announced the arrival of baby Skehan, a little boy, this morning. Sofie, originally from Gothenburg, Sweden, gave birth at a hospital in their adopted home of California.
"WELCOME TO THE WORLD LITTLE BABY BOY! What a whirlwind- @sofieskehan rocked it with Swedish Viking strength for a natural birth, 3 hours in the hospital! I’m so proud and both so grateful," he wrote on social media. "Mommy and little guy doing great- totally chilled and ready for a whole new world of adventures! Just the most amazing experience- in awe of it all!"
The couple have not announced the name of their new arrival yet. Donal and Sofie, his long-time business manager, wed in 2015.
Earlier this year, he spoke about his excitement about becoming a first time fathre.
"We always like to hold onto something just for ourselves. It's so lovely that there's such an interest in it, but we had such a time with it just being our news. Considering our world is about to be rocked, to have that time just with each other, was really important," Donal told the July issue of VIP Magazine.
In the new interview from their adopted home of Los Angeles, Donal opened up about his plans for first-time fatherhood, saying he hopes to be "supportive and patient".
"The one thing that myself and Sofie love doing is having family time together, so spending as much with family is going to be key. You can have all the best-laid plains though. I'm sure we'll be killing each other over lack of sleep," he added.
"We have patterns of how we deal with things and when I travel, Sofie has loads of free time and vice versa. I think that's the thing we are both most nervous and excited about, just how different our lives are going to be. We're enjoying our time together now as we know there's a storm a-coming!"
