Donal Skehan and his wife Sofie Larsson are enjoying LA life on Venice Beach after setting up shop in California earlier this month.

The newlyweds bid an emotional goodbye to their first home together two weeks ago and are awaiting the arrival of their dog Max, who should arrive in Hollywood in the coming weeks.

“We're settling in to our new Californian lifestyle,” Donal said.

“It's taking a little getting used to but now that we're over the jet lag we're ready for it.”

“Myself and Sofie are staying in Venice beach while we get our bearings and it seems to be the perfect place to take in just a small part of this city's brilliant food scene.

“[Max] is being well looked after but won't see him for a couple of weeks before he makes the big move,” said Donal.

The 29-year-old cookbook author, who was formerly based in his hometown of Howth, made the move with his wife in order to build his profile in America.

The couple moved out of their Dublin home earlier this month which the chef admitted was the end of an era.

"Six years and amazing memories at 27 Main Street, Howth- we said our goodbyes yesterday to the house which was our first home, the place all my shows were shot, the place we worked from, where our neighbours were never short of a big hello," the Howth native said on Instagram.

"[It's] where Max (the couple's border collie) came home to for the first time, where we first came home to as a married couple, where we grew veggies out the back all summer long, where the best cliff walks started and finished and where we cooked some of the best dinners and enjoyed the best nights in with friends and family celebrating birthdays, engagements, babies, anniversaries and more.

"A huge thank you to everyone who crossed the threshold and enjoyed the place as much as we did, for now though it's goodbye to our little Howth home."
